Juan Talks: Sanchez Peak

General Santos City is one of the growing cities on Philippine Island. When tourists hear the City's name, they are automatically reminded of the Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao and Yellow Fin Tuna. But the City is more than that; despite the situation bought by the Covid-19 Pandemic, this City copes with the changes and surprisingly increased the number of tourism destinations, primarily outdoor activities like hiking and camping.

One of the most popular tourist spots and hiking sites here in Gen San is located at the boundary of Barangay Conel and Olympog. This Peak offers a panoramic view of the City and nearby green mountains like Mt. Matutum and Mt. Parker, as well as Saranggani Bay. The place was equipped with various exciting photo sites, a cottage, a tent area, a rest room, and a store selling goods.

You can access the mountain through several trails:

  • Balakayo Trail- when I first visited Sanchez Peak, we accessed this trail in Sitio Balakayo, as it is the most common and easy (but the longest) trail. Which I recommend when you decide to visit the place

  • Tukanop Trail- The second trail is in Purok Tukanop, Barangay Olympog; it is one of the most challenging trails

  • Balsinang Trail- in Purok Balsinang, Barangay Olympog you will find the shortest but most dificult trail

The Peak offers affordable amenities; if you plan on staying the night, there are cottages and rooms available for rent at Sanchez Peak. They do, however, have a designated tent camping area. You may also purchase meals in-store or order from Peak's proprietors, who are there almost daily. A parking lot and four comfort rooms are also available at Sanchez Peak.

Early morning the area is surrounded by fogs, but you can see the overlooking City filled with lights during the night.
